Ricoh Company, Ltd., announced that it will build Times Square’s first billboard to be powered completely by renewable energy.

The billboard, to be lit by floodlights, will be powered by 45 solar panels and four wind turbines. Russell Marchetta, a Ricoh Americas spokesman, said a comparable sign running on electricity derived from fossil fuels would produce 18 more tons of carbon dioxide per year than the new advertisement.
